M.Sc. (Biochemistry)

A week-long induction programme is organized for the new batch of students wherein guest speakers are invited to share their expertise, knowledge and experience in their respective fields. Students are exposed to emerging trends and career opportunities available in biotechnology. A series of informative lectures are also organised for the students by in-house University faculties which include orientation to student welfare policies, wellness and recreation facilities as well as health care services. This induction program also includes various lectures on personality enhancement and soft skills training. Students are given a bird’s eye view of their course curricula.

At Symbiosis School of Biological Sciences pedagogy involves a combination of lectures, assignments, case studies, presentations with special emphasis on laboratory practical’s and hands on training. Industry and field visits too are given a special emphasis. Additionally, classroom sessions are planned on current scientific topics or path breaking research to encourage open ended discussions. Students are also encouraged to undertake research projects mandatorily as a part of the curriculum.

Step 2: Screening for Eligibility as follows:

For M.Sc. (Biochemistry):Graduate in Science with Chemistry as one of the subjects in the third year OR Graduate in Life Sciences/ Health Sciences/ Biotechnology/ any other Biological Science from any recognized University/ Institution of National Importance with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent grade (45% or equivalent grade for Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribes)

Step 3: Shortlisted candidates will undergo Personal Interaction. There is no written exam.

Overall, the candidates will be assessed based upon the following parameters: Undergraduate academic score, general aptitude, subject knowledge, communication skills and extra-curricular achievements

SSBS

SSBS awards merit scholarship under SIU policy for all our undergraduate programmes. The following are the details of the Scholarship for Academic Excellence at SSBS.

The Scheme

Merit Scholarship for Semester / Annual Toppers - (Post Graduate & Under Graduate programmes)

Applicability and Commencement: This scholarship is applicable to:

• i. All PG degree programmes which follow semester pattern.
• ii. PG degree programmes which follow annual pattern (except SMCW)
• iii. A student can avail only one SIU scholarship per semester.

Awarded to:

• i. Four semester toppers in the order of merit of every batch of every degree programme (UG and PG) under SIU.
• ii. Four toppers which follow annual pattern.

Nature of the scholarship:

First four toppers in the order of merit of every batch of every programme in every semester/ annually will be awarded the Merit Scholarship.

The Scholarship recipients are granted concession in Academic Fees of the semester, applicable to all full time Post Graduate and Under Graduate degree programmes of all the Constituents of SIU, as below:

• 1st topper gets 20%
• 2nd topper gets 15%
• 3rd topper gets 10%
• 4th topper gets 5%

The scholarship amount will not be paid directly to the students. It will be transferred by the University directly to the Constituent, for the adjustment in academic fee of the following semester.

In case the student is a topper in the last semester of the programme, the scholarship amount will be transferred to the student’s bank account as per available records.
